Tim Bridgman won the second round of the Formula BMW UK Championship after inheriting the lead from early leader Stian Sorlie. Mechanical problems hit Sorlie as he looked set for a comfortable win and he pulled of the circuit handing the lead to Bridgeman, who had made a strong start and had a comfortable three second lead over Philip Glew.

The front row for round two was identical to that of round one with Stian Sorlie again lining up on pole position ahead of team-mate James Sutton. Behind them was Philip Glew in third, Bridgman in forth, Joao Urban in fifth and race one winner Simon Walker-Hansell a distant tenth.

Sorlie made no mistakes this time and strongly held his lead around the first lap. Sutton did not get away from the line so well and dropped down to fourth place on the first lap and then down to tenth with a mistake at the final chicane. Oliver Smith also had a bad first lap after running wide at Campbell and dropping down from sixth to twelfth.

Sorlie started pulling away from the second-placed Bridgman by half a second a lap. Glew was running in third place but unable to make an impression on Bridgeman ahead of him. Christian Bakkerud, who had started in eleventh and made up two places at the start, had moved up to fifth place by lap three.

The race order was Sorlie, Bridgman, Glew, Urbano Bakkerud and Walker-Hansell, and this order was maintained for the majority of the race, with Sorlie pulling a lead of nearly five seconds by lap eleven.

Sorlie’s race took an unfortunate turn on lap twelve as the Norwegian driver coasted to a halt with a mechanical failure on the far side of the circuit. The slowing car also baulked Urbano who lost momentum slightly on the fast part of the circuit and was passed by Bakkerud.

This handed the lead to Tim Bridgman and his three second gap over Philip Glew was enough to secure the win, with Bakkerud taking third place.

1. Tim Bridgeman 17 minutes 52.092 seconds
