Saavedra and Pelletier in the lead

Indianapolis, July 4th, 2006. -- Gelles Racing young guns had a wild weekend in Indianapolis and only Colombian Sebastian Saavedra managed Top Ten finishes. But the story remains bad weather prevailed for the only qualifying session and the off-track excursions almost all the drivers suffered in the double header. Nevertheless, both Saavedra and Junior Scholar Pelletier scored valuable points and now both top the Rookie standings with a 1-2 punch.

"This could have been the worst BMW USA weekend in terms of weather, argued team owner Bob Gelles. We worked the cars for a rain setup and had four drivers among the top six in the qualifying session until the skies cleared. Some drivers managed to get one or two laps on a drying track while ours were not able to get one good lap and had to settle with the rain times due to my poor decision. That explained why some had to start from mid-pack or worse. From then, both races saw off-track adventures with almost every driver taking the green road at one point or the other. I am very satisfied with our two rookies Sebastian (Saavedra) in his Western Union car, and Maxime (Pelletier) with his BMW of Sterling machine, both scored extremely valuable points in the rookie standings. Saavedra was two for two bringing home both 1st place BMW USA Rookie trophies adding to his collection. Saavedra took the lead he had lost in Montreal while Pelletier is now a close second.''

Robbie Pecorari at the Grand Prix of Toronto

The BMW crew will take a three week break before they head out to San Jose Grand Prix for the next feature double header. They leave the stage to Robbie Pecorari and his Western Union #28 Champ Car Atlantic who will be in Toronto this weekend for the Grand Prix of Toronto. The 19-year old rookie Champ Car Atlantic driver just had his best weekend in Cleveland with a season-high fourth place and he could be heading for his first podium in Canada.

A second driver for Edmonton

Team owner Bob Gelles will announce shortly a second driver will join Gelles Racing on the Atlantic team beginning at the Grand Prix of Edmonton followed immediately by San Jose. The San Jose Grand Prix will be the first weekend all eight Gelles drivers will take to the track in the same racing program, stay tuned for a significant partnership alliance to be unveiled at the Grand Prix of San Jose.
