Woodcliff Lake, NJ - June 12, 2007-- As the 2007 Formula BMW USA Championship enters Rounds 5 and 6 this weekend as under card for the United States Grand Prix at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway the fight for the title is looking to be a battle between last season's Rookie champion Daniel Morad (Eurointernational) and this season's Rookie sensation Esteban Gutierrez (Autotecnica).

Canadian Morad has led the points since taking the Round 1 win. He was moved to the second step of the podium by Gutierrez in Round 2, but was back on top in Rounds 3 and 4. After winning the Rookie title last season, he has returned to Formula BMW USA this year as a BMW Junior and has shown the rest of the field that he is the man to beat. That has proven hard to do. In fact, only Gutierrez has bested Morad this season. The Rookie driver, from Monterrey, Mexico, has shown he has speed by winning the pole in every round and taking the Round 2 win. A fourth, a second and a sixth have him within 22 points of Morad.

The consistency of Robert Thorne's (Team Apex Racing USA) two seventh-place and two fifth-place finishes has him third in points. Sebastian Saavedra (Eurointernational) stands fourth, only three points behind. The Colombian's 16th- place finish in Round 2 the only blemish on a fine season so far that has included podium finishes in the last two rounds. Jeffrey Petriello (Team KMA) is fifth and is the highest Rookie Junior. Gutierrez is firmly in command of the Rookie points by 37 points over Petriello and Ricardo Favoretto (HBR Motorsport Team USA).

Adrien Tambay, a Junior in the Formula BMW Germany series and 16-year old son of former F1 and sports car driver Patrick Tambay, has entered Rounds 5 and 6. Currently standing 8th in the Formula BMW Germany series, Tambay will be looking to share the same success of drivers from other Formula BMW series who have come to Montreal and Indy like Stefano Coletti, winner of three of the four Grand Prix rounds in 2006.

Of course racing is the primary focus of any Formula BMW USA weekend, but the rounds at Indy also include many special activities, especially for those enrolled in Kohlberg, Head of Sponsoring, BMW Motorsport will be held on Thursday. On Saturday tours of the BMW Sauber F1 Team garages are scheduled.

Practice will be held from 12:50 - 1:20 p.m. Friday, with a single 30-minute qualifying scheduled for 4:55 p.m. that afternoon. A driver's fastest time will determine their starting position for Saturday's 11:25 a.m. Round 5 race and their second-fastest time will set the grid for the Round 6 contest. Round 6 is scheduled to start Sunday at 9:40 a.m.
