Scholar happy with first weekend

Junior BMW scholar Pelletier heads into Lime Rock

Lime Rock, May 26th, 2006. -- Maxime Pelletier's first weekend in professional open wheel racing was a tremendous learning curve as he earned tenth place in the first round and eleventh in the second at the Lexington Mid-Ohio facility in the first double header of the season. The French Canadian was not able to qualify an ailing car and had to work his way from back of the grid on both occasion. Throughout the testing days, Pelletier was seldom out of the top ten and frequently in the top five. He finally came out happy of his performances and eager to take the challenge of another double header in Lime Rock.

''I look at my first weekend like a greenhouse that will feed me for the rest of the season, said the 15-year old scholar. For the qualifying sessions, the #11 Western Union car had a lot of understeering and we could not find the solution until race time Saturday afternoon. Sunday's qualifying left me in 18th spot on the grid and I had to come a long way.

In the first race I manage to move up to tenth place and earned my first championship point in the series. In the second race, I took four positions in the first laps before the track was slowed down by the pace car. Then it was harder to move up to eleventh since I was caught up with cars that kept passing one another. I had a faster car but could not move my way around them and the race was checkered after only twelve laps.

But, I was happy to work with Mister Claude Bourbonnais, my instructor, and Marco Tischer, my chief mechanic. I'm sure we will have a better car coming into Lime Rock.''
