Christian Vietoris continued his challenge to notch this year's Formula BMW World Challenge pole for Sunday's race of the top drivers who competed this season around the globe. The German 17-year-old racer won the 2006 Formula BMW Germany title racing for Josef Kaufmann Racing. With two heats to be run tomorrow morning on the Circuito de la Comunidad Valenciana in Valencia, Spain, Vietoris has laid down the gauntlet taking the win in the first Heat and repeating that feat in Heat four.

"In this morning's Super Pole contest I was a few tenths of a second behind Mika Maki," said Vietoris, "but then it worked out perfectly for me in the two qualifying heats. I had very good starts, which enabled me to open up a lead over the following cars quite quickly. I'm the only driver who has zero points on my tally. So I'm confident about achieving a promising starting position for the final."

The German's nearest competitor is his own teammate Josef Kral. The Czech Republic racer won Heat two and finished the final Saturday heat in second behind Vietoris. At sixteen, he looks to have the best edge of stealing the pole from Vietoris.

"I'm just happy that I was able to win this round," commented Kral after scoring his victory today. "In race four, Christian Vietoris was clearly faster than the rest of us. My goal was therefore to defend second place. And I succeeded in doing just that."

Finland's Mika Maki looks to have a good shot of over-taking the two JKR teammates. Driving for Eifelland Racing, he landed the top spot in Friday's group two qualifying round and was fastest in the Super Pole competition today between the eight top racers from yesterday. The Super Pole determined the pole for Heat one. His victory today came in the third Heat race.

"In my first race I had some problems with the clutch at the start and lost some positions," explained Maki. "In the second heat, however, it went a lot better. But we have to keep working on our pace if we want to have a chance tomorrow. It would be great to start from the first row."
