Austria GP2: Sirotkin on top in practice
Sergey Sirotkin proved the man to beat in practice for this weekend’s GP2 races at the Red Bull Ring, beating Mitch Evans and Stoffel Vandoorne to top the timesheets.

Points leader Vandoorne traded fastest times with Sirotkin for much of the early part of the session, before Evans, fresh from competing in last weekend’s Le Mans 24 Hours, beat the ART driver’s best effort of 1m15.223s by 0.022 seconds to take the top spot.
Sirotkin then responded with a 1m15.142s to move back into first, before finding almost three tenths to cement his stranglehold on the session with a 1m14.880s, 0.321s faster than Evans.
Pierre Gasly’s DAMS-run machine grinding to a halt at the exit of Turn 7 then briefly brought out the red flags, and the top three of Sirotkin (Rapax), Evans (Russian Time) and Vandoorne remained unchanged in the final few minutes of running when the session got back under way.
Racing Engineering driver Alexander Rossi jumped to fourth, 0.392s off the pace, after the red flag interlude, with Gasly’s teammate Alex Lynn completing the top five just seven thousandths slower than the American.
Ferrari protégé Raffaele Marciello (Trident) went sixth fastest ahead of Gasly, with Campos duo Rio Haryanto and Arthur Pic next up and Hilmer’s Nick Yelloly completing the top 10.
