Promising start for Racing Engineering!

Racing Engineering started positively into the first day of the second round of the GP2 Series taking place this weekend at the Spanish circuit of Barcelona. While the free practice session in the morning saw Borja Garcia up in fifth position, the Racing Engineering drivers, Borja Garcia and Neel Jani, start Saturday's race from ninth and thirteenth position respectively.

In the morning session both Racing Engineering drivers still fought against minor problems on their racecars. Especially Borja Garcia still suffered from the brakes on his car not reaching the right working temperature and forced him to start his braking maneuvers much before necessary, which found its result in the the lap times.

During the thirty-minute qualifying session, however, Racing Engineering's drivers finally concentrated on the improvement of the handling of their cars after overcoming the problems faced in the morning session. The excellent 9th position of Borja Garcia leaves all options for Saturday's race open and maybe even helps him onto the podium during Sunday's sprint race.

Racing Engineering's Neel Jani, 13th on the starting grid on Saturday, aims to make up as many positions as possible during the race to repeat what he already managed to achieve in Imola, start the sprint race from a front position.

After the qualifying session Borja Garcia stated, "In the end I was able to overcome the brake problems and could concentrate on working on the set up of my car. I am very happy with the car's handling and am very positive about tomorrow's race. The car is much better than in Imola and now lets see how the race will go, but a lot is possible. Of course this home race is an additional motivation for me".

Neel Jani at the end of the Friday sessions declared, "My first set of tyres was working well and when I entered into the pits to pick up the second set, I was in 5th position and felt really confident although I caught a lot of yellow flags on my turns realized so far. I thought that with the new set of tyres everything was possible. However, without changing the set up of the car I went on the track again and all of the sudden suffered from tremendous under steer. Generally I am content with the car and we have made a big improvement between the morning and afternoon session".

Alfonso de Orleans, president of the team, said, "Although the results are not too bad, we could have definitely done better. Now we are looking forward to tomorrow's race and I have a lot of confidence in Borja and Neel, who are both very competitive and aggressive drivers. I am convinced they will give everything during the race!"
