BRIDGESTONE E-REPORTER FINALISTS ANNOUNCED FOR 2007
First e-reporter journalist to attend Spanish Grand Prix (11-13 May)
Bridgestone, exclusive supplier to the GP2 Series, has today announced the seven finalists of this year's Bridgestone e-reporter competition for aspiring young journalists. Now in its fourth year the contest continues to provide students from across Europe, still in full time education, with the opportunity to make their debut as a reporter, for Bridgestone, covering the GP2 Series from within the paddock.
This years competition has seen the highest level of entries to-date, and with previous finalists going on to work within the media, the competition is being recognised as a proving ground for the next generation of motorsport journalists. Each of the finalists for this season will be invited to attend a European Grand Prix weekend to experience Formula One and the GP2 Series first hand, getting the chance to report on GP2 and its up and coming star drivers.
The 2007 Bridgestone e-reporter finalists, chosen by a panel of international media representatives, include: Spanish GP - 13 May: Tom Hornsby (UK) French GP -1 July: Michael William Scott (UK) British GP - 8 July: Michael Lea-O'Mahoney (UK) German GP - 22 July: Jake Schembri (Malta) Hungarian GP - 5 August: Andras Kittka (Hungary) Italian GP - 9 September: Peter Hodges (UK) Belgian GP -16 September: Laura Postma (Netherlands)
Prior to being selected as a 2007 finalist, entrants were required to write interview questions for a GP2 feature, along with a 300 word article themed around Bridgestone and Formula One. Judged on their journalistic style and writing ability, the seven finalists now have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to start a media career from their experiences with e-reporter.
Throughout the 2007 GP2 season, driver interviews from the Bridgestone e-reporters will be featured on the GP2 website, www.gp2series.com, while race reports from the finalists will feature on the Bridgestone website, www.bridgestone.eu/e-reporter.
The overall winner of Bridgestone e-reporter, who demonstrates the most journalistic flair while reporting from the GP2 paddock, will be awarded a state-of-the-art laptop; the chance to interview a GP2 graduate who has made the step up to drive in Formula One; further invaluable work experience; and a trip to attend a Bridgestone safety event (www.safetyatheart.eu).
Motorsport broadcaster, and Bridgestone e-reporter judge, Tony Jardine, said: "Bridgestone e-reporter is a fantastic competition for students wishing to pursue a career in sports journalism. Each year we receive more and more entries with many young hopefuls from across Europe looking to break in to the world of motorsport. "For the last three years finalists have taken what they have learnt through their involvement in e-reporter and developed into fully fledged journalists for outlets such as F1racing.net, Crash.net, motorsport monthly Autoklub, and Eurosport.com, which shows that the competition is effective in introducing new journalistic talent to the sport, just as GP2 is effective in producing the new stars of F1 - such as the man of the moment, Lewis Hamilton."
The overall winner of Bridgestone e-reporter 2007 will be announced at the GP2 end of season finale in Valencia.
