Latifi dominated throughout the 21-lap Sprint Race, comfortably managing the lead to collect his first win.

“Race 1 was probably the trickiest I’ve driven in,” said Latifi. “It was difficult to follow cars ahead and eighth was the best we could manage. Starting on pole in Race 2, I got away OK and managed the gap behind. It got close at the end with the Safety Car, but I’m very happy with my first win and it’s great for the team!”

The fight for second place was indeed intense between former Canadian champions Peter Thomson/Frank Sprongl (the latter was co-driving for Thomson in his Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX) and Martin Donnelly/Alan Ockwell (Subaru WRX STI). Thomson/Sprongl claimed fastest time on two of the special stages and eventually finished in second place (25 seconds behind the winners), but the spread between the two battling Ontario teams never exceeded fifteen seconds. In the end, only 11 seconds separated second and third place.

Thompson wins both USF2000 races in Toronto

For the second day in a row, Canadian Parker Thompson guided his Exclusive Autosport Tatuus USF-17 to a hard-won victory in the USF2000 series in Toronto. The native of Red Deer, Alberta was assisted on this occasion by an incident which eliminated the top three contenders, including USF2000 points’ leader Oliver Askew. Thompson then had to work hard to keep fellow teenager Rinus VeeKay, from The Netherlands, behind him.

Martin Roy forced to retire in New Hampshire

Martin Roy, the driver of the No. 90 Gamache/Côté/GloboCam Camaro prepared by King Autosport, was forced to retire with just 30 laps to go in the NASCAR Xfinity race held at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

Despite fighting a ill-handling car since the start of the 200-lap race, Roy managed to pass a few rivals. However, a valve spring broke in the engine, forcing Roy to stop.

“I really like this short oval made of two long straights and two tight corners,” said Roy. “The car was very loose. Then, the problem occurred and I pitted to save the motor.”

Roy was eventually credited with a 33rd place finish.
