Team Rapax's driver - mathematically still within the title fight - aimed to express his full potential in the closing minutes of his final attempt on super soft tyres. A technical problem happened to the car driven by Daniel Abt (Art Grand Prix) interrupted the session with six minutes to the flag, when Coletti was in his quick lap.

The Monegasque driver had unavoidably to pit and later on he tried to get back within the top ten but his rubber did not have the grip to bear a full qualifying lap and the session ended with his eighteenth place.

The pole position went to Alexander Rossi (EQ8 Caterham Racing), who was followed by Sam Bird (Russian Time) and Jolyon Palmer (Carlin).

Stefano Coletti: "The circuit got quicker and quicker as time went by and I waited until the final minutes to aim to the front positions. Unfortunately the session was red-flagged when I was in my best attempt and, back on track, tyres did not have their best performance anymore and there was not much I could do".

The programme of the weekend will continue tomorrow with the Main Race scheduled for 09.10 (GMT+2) while the Sprint Race will begin at 10.15 on Sunday. Both races will go live on Sky Sport F1 HD.
