DPR Direxiv's Frustrations Brim Over

Although tempers didn't blow in the last two days, just about everything else did for the British DPR Direxiv team at the first official 2006 GP2 test. A long list of engine and gearbox problems meant that the team's running at the HTTT Paul Ricard track in France was severely hampered over the course of the two days.

For Monegasque driver, Clivio Piccione, it was a dismal start to his 2006 season as he only managed to complete 100km of running. His car suffered gear selection problems which saw his mechanics having to remove the gearbox on his car six times over the two days, three of which were before he even got onto the track. He managed two good runs today before the throttle motor failed, followed soon after by an engine failure. Oliver Pla, from Toulouse, fared slightly better after initial gear selection problems and was working through an engineering programme until his new engine also failed – just as he'd put on a new set of tyres with a view to setting a truly competitive time.

Team Principal, David Price, was grim-faced at the end of the test. "I have to say I'm really disappointed in the quality of some of the products provided to us at the start of this GP2 season. We lost far too much track time through absolutely no fault of our own, in common with many of the other teams."

The next test will take place at the Paul Ricard circuit on the 16th and 17th March.
