Gonzalez prepares for GP2 season with Trident Racing

Istanbul Park

Attleborough racer Rodolfo Gonzalez is preparing for a season of GP2 racing, supporting the European Formula 1 races, with the first races taking place at the Istanbul Park circuit in Turkey on May 7th/8th.

I was really happy to see how much the team wanted me to be part of them, and that's been a key element in reaching the agreement.

After agreeing to race for Trident Racing Gonzalez commented “I'm really happy to have become part of the Trident Racing family. I was persuaded this was the right choice since last season, but circumstances prevented us from being able to work together. I was really happy to see how much the team wanted me to be part of them, and that's been a key element in reaching the agreement. Having a team that trust you it's even more important than a great car. Both myself and all the members of Trident Racing have an huge determination in being clear candidates for some great results. Since last November's test at Abu Dhabi, the feedback has been greatly encouraging, as we clocked the 5th fastest laps of the whole four days. My dream is to end the 2011 season into the top-5 in points. I know it won't be easy, but a really motivated team-driver combination can always lead to some surprise. That's what I hope for"

The last round of collective testing before the 2011 GP2 Mains Series season opener was completed at the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona, to prepare for the first round of the year at Istanbul.

The test held at the Spanish venue saw Trident Racing complete the team's heavy program they had scheduled before going on-track at Catalunya. The team also collected a huge amount of data that the technical staff will analyze before the start of the 2011 Main Series. Both Rodolfo Gonzalez (and team mate Stefano Coletti) confirmed on-track the great expectations previously set, ending up with no mistakes or incidents.

After the final test Gonzalez commented “During the collective test at Barcelona, the tyre's performance has been slightly different from what we saw in the previous rounds of the Asia Series. The hard compound eventually showed a big performance fade after a few laps, and the driving experience was quite affected by that. The race simulation test went well and the lap times we recorded made me quite optimistic for race day. Tyre performance is still an unknown but it'll be the same for everybody, so we'll have to wait and see what will happen from the Istanbul race onwards.”
