Qualifying malaise continues for Telmex Arden duo

Telmex Arden team-mates Sergio Perez and Edoardo Mortara have converted several unfortunate qualifying performances into solid race results this season, but they face a particularly difficult task in tomorrow's GP2 Series race at the Hungaroring, Budapest. This is one of the season's tightest tracks and overtaking opportunities are traditionally at a premium. Starting 15th and 18th respectively, Perez and Mortara know they have their work cut out if they are to add to their seasonal tally of points finishes. Mortara spun off during the final moments of qualifying while attempting to improve his position.

Today's session was mildly chaotic in the hot, dusty conditions. It had to be stopped for a few minutes to allow title contender Romain Grosjean's crashed car to be retrieved from the tyre wall.

Sergio:

"That wasn't what I expected at all. It is a very difficult circuit to learn and I struggled with my car's balance in the middle sector, which lost me quite a bit of time. Tomorrow is another day and we need to keep improving, but you never know what will happen. We need a good start and to make up some places. My aim is to score some points, not matter how difficult that might be."

Edoardo:

"Qualifying went badly for me. The steering was misaligned at the start of the session and the problem simply became worse. I couldn't do anything. The early red flag was unfortunate because I was on a reasonably quick lap at the time, but the car deteriorated significantly after the session resumed, so that was that. Despite today's problems, I believe a top eight finish is possible if we come up with a good race strategy. I will discuss that tonight with my engineers."
