Lynn: "DAMS isn't where it was last year"

GP2 driver Alex Lynn says his recent struggles in the series are down to the DAMS squad's inability to reproduce the frontrunning pace it had last season.

The Williams development driver joined DAMS in GP2 last year after winning the GP3 title in 2014, and ended up as that year's second-best rookie in sixth overall.

The Briton continued his collaboration with the French team this year and, even though he won at Catalunya in the season opener, he has only scored once and failed to qualify higher than eighth in the past four rounds.

He sits 11th in the standings after the most recent Hungaroring races, 56 points behind former teammate and championship leader Pierre Gasly.

"It's clear the pace isn't in the car and we aren't where we were last year, even in the start of this year," Lynn told Motorsport.com.

"Clearly we had a good start to the year, we are hoping to fight for the championship, but we are obviously not where we want to be but at the moment."

"We are just working extremely hard to come back to the pace and that's our only focus at the moment.

"We need to keep working on our philosophy, trusting each other and we know we will be back to the front of the grid soon."

No return to GP2 next year

Lynn also confirmed he would not stay for a third season of GP2 in 2017.

"Definitely no GP2 next year," he said. "This is my final year in junior single-seaters."

While Lynn remains an option for a race seat with Williams in 2017, the Grove-based team's technical alliance with Jaguar's newly-launched Formula E team could also be the 22-year-old's next stop.

But, when asked about the possibility of joining Jaguar, Lynn could only say: "I think it's difficult to comment about that at the moment."
