The GP2 series arrives in Monte Carlo for Round Five of the 2005 season, with just one race to be run over the course of the weekend on Saturday at 16:00 CET.

The championship standings after Barcelona see Heikki Kovalainen and Scott Speed sharing the lead in the drivers' championship on 20 points. Gimmi Bruni is just two points behind them on 18 with José Maria López on 17, Adam Carroll on 13 and Nelson Piquet Jr on 10. In the teams' championship Arden International lead the way on 24, with iSport International on 20 and Coloni Motorsport in third on 18.

Kaz Hamamura, Bridgestone Japan Technical Manager: "Monaco poses a unique challenge as it is the only street circuit on the GP2 calendar. The average speeds are much lower and the road surface is not particularly abrasive. As a result, we have decided to provide the GP2 field with a one-off super soft compound tyre which will only be used next weekend and is supplementary to the other three specifications of dry tyre which have been selected for use this season. We believe all the GP2 drivers will be able to push hard with more confidence and safety with this compound and this will, we hope, provide more exciting racing."

Bernard Dudot, GP2 series Head of Engineering: "Monaco is traditionally tough on two main areas of the car: transmission and brakes. This weekend all GP2 series cars will be fitted with new gear ratios, specific to Monaco. We tested these ratios at Paul Ricard before Barcelona and are happy with the choice. The cars will also feature a new cooling system on the rear and front brake callipers and uprights."

Bruno Michel, GP2 series Organiser: "In the four races we've had so far, we've seen four different drivers on the top step of the podium. There has been seen some great racing, and some great overtaking. All in all I'd say we've had a very promising start to the season and it's exactly what we were looking for. Looking at the performance of the car in Spain, I think it would be fair to say that we have reacted well to the issues we encountered in Imola. We made some important evolutions and upgrades for Barcelona and, as Bernard has said, we have made more changes between Barcelona and Monaco.

"No other motor racing series other than Formula One, has received better coverage than the GP2 series. Obviously this makes me happy, and it is great to see the figures rising. We've put agreements in place with Eurosport in over 50 countries. Major European terrestrial companies have also chosen to promote the GP2 series this year. Our website is getting over 30,000 hits a day during our race weekends, and more and more people are catching the GP2 bug. Also, the press at large has been very quick to pick up on the GP2 series and its potential. As the season progresses, I am confident that our championship will gain more and more fans.".

The GP2 series will be hosting its usual Happy Hour on Thursday at 18:00 in its hospitality unit and we look forward to welcoming our friends of the media once more.
