Racing Engineering's Neel Jani wins in Monza
Neel Jani has celebrated a fantastic start to finish victory at Monza, the second win for Racing Engineering in the 2005 GP2 Series. Borja Garcia finished the race in 10th position.
After an all but satisfying Saturday, Sunday's results have more than made up for the previous day. With Neel Jani starting the race from the front row expectations were high, and the Swiss Racing Engineering driver didn't fail in meeting them. Celebrating his second victory this season, Neel and Racing Engineering are now confirmed as part of the elite of the GP2 Series. The race, however, was not an easy one. Creating a two second gap to his followers for most of the race, Neel was under pressure from Rosberg during the last laps. But Neel was able to defend his first position brilliantly, and was the well deserved winner of today's race.
Borja Garcia, behind the steering wheel of Racing Engineering's car nutmber 19, ran a race of permanent progress. Knowing that starting 18 h on the grid isn't an easy job to do, Borja didn't benefit at all from the rolling start, but nevertheless the Spaniard made up position after position as the race went on and finished in the top 10.
Celebrating his second victory, Neel Jani stated: "I had a really good start and was able to overtake Monfardini at the end of the straight. At the beginning of the race I was able to create a gap between me and the rest, and could keep that distance for the rest of the race. My car was much better than yesterday, and we made an important improvement . I am happy with my second victory in this championship, and I hope we can repeat this next weekend in Spa."
Borja Garcia noted after Sunday's race: "We didn't change the car from yesterday to today, but still I felt a lot of oversteer. This is really strange, and it didn't put me in a position where I could really attack. However, I started 18th and finished 10th, which isn't too bad. But obviously it's hard to go in a race from 18th position, especially with a rolling start, which made me loose quite a lot of time from the beginning."
Alfonso de Orleáns-Borbón added: "Awesome! The boys were fantastic for making the car work like a Swiss clock without any problems, and of course Neel was stunning. It became a bit tight towards the end of the race, but at no point did I think that Neel would give away this win. A big thank you to the entire team."
