Toronto’s Nicholas Latifi contested the 2017 FIA Formula 2 Championship as part of the French DAMS squad. He scored three third-place finishes and also came home second at the Red Bull Ring in Austria early in the season before he captured his first category race victory at Silverstone in July. He then claimed another second place showing in Hungary and collected two other third-place finishes later in the year.

The 22-year-old member of the Renault Sport F1 Development Driver programme ranked fifth in the final standings. He also got the chance to test the Renault R.S.17 turbo hybrid Formula 1 car for the first time in Barcelona last May.

In this 2017 season summary video, Nicholas explained: “The main thing I look at when I’m trying to evaluate this season is comparing it to my previous year and that for sure was a massive step forward. That’s one of the main reasons I can be really happy about this year.

“The biggest improvement was my race pace. Last year was quite difficult for me in the races to understand the Pirelli tires but we did a lot of work with the team to improve my understanding and the team improved the car a lot as well.

“We went from being one of the slower ones in the races to being arguably one of the quickest ones and always finishing on the podium,” he declared.
