Ocean Racing Technology comes close to the points
Ocean Racing Technology was not rewarded for its efforts in Barcelona, which was home this weekend to the second stage of the GP2 Main Series championship. The team leaves Spain with 13th and 14th place finishes for Johnny Cecotto Jr. and 16th and 21st place finishes for Kevin Mirocha.
I am confident for Monaco.

After painstakingly analyzing the behaviour of the new Pirelli tyres and anticipating their level of wear on the Circuit de Catalunya, which is the most abrasive track of the season, Ocean Racing Technology chose to save a set of new tyres for the first race. The strategy worked intrinsically well, as was demonstrated by Johnny Cecotto Jr.'s 8th fastest lap in race, despite a difficult race where the Venezuelan driver was often stuck in traffic. At mid-race, Johnny was in 9th, and a points finish was foreseeable until the performance of his tyres fell apart at the end of the race. Johnny Cecotto Jr. and Kevin Mirocha were racing in the same lap times as several very experienced and race-winning drivers.
"I had a very good start and the beginning of the race went every well," Johnny Cecotto Jr. explained, "But in the second half of the race, the tyres had deteriorated a lot. The end result is disappointing because I could not continue moving up or even keep my position. Monaco will be much different, but we will have to analyze the Barcelona weekend to adjust our approach for the upcoming races."
Kevin Mirocha did not let his inexperience get the upper hand on the difficult Catalan track. The young German driver started from one of the last lines on the starting grid in the second race and moved up to 16th place after being involved in some very intense battles. His best race lap shows that he had the potential to break into the top 10 and Kevin leaves Barcelona feeling positive.

"It is very formative because once again I gained some great experience from this weekend, which was only my second GP2 Main Series," Kevin pointed out, "On the other hand, I am disappointed because on Saturday I had a braking problem which forced me to DNF and so I had to start the second race from the back of the grid. On Sunday, I had a good start and my pace in the first 15 laps was very competitive. But we have to understand why the tyres deteriorated so quickly. I am confident for Monaco. It is an historic track and a very demanding one where it is impossible to make predictions, but I know we can secure a good result."
The 5th and 6th GP2 Main Series races will take place in less than a week in the principality of Monaco, on May 26 and 28.
