The Rosin family leaves Prema after more than 40 years

It's the end of an era, and the reasons for the Rosin family leaving Prema have not yet been disclosed

The Rosin family has resigned from the Prema team, founded by Angelo Rosin back in 1983. The news has had a major impact on the world of motorsport. Over the years, the Veneto-based team had seen Grazia Troncon (Angelo's wife), René Rosin, and Angelina Ertsou take on management roles, but they all left the team at the beginning of the week.

Prema has long been one of the leading names in the world of preparatory formulas. The team has won dozens of titles in all the categories it has competed in, structuring itself in a way where it is capable of helping numerous drivers throughout their entire rise through the ranks, from post-karting to the gates of Formula 1. And just last year, they joined the IndyCar grid, winning pole position for the Indianapolis 500 with Robert Shwartzman.

Since the 1980s, Prema's history has developed through several cycles, with the Rosin family remaining a constant presence through it all. Although there have been no official announcements, between 2015 and 2021 the team was controlled by Lawrence Stroll through a company linked to the Canadian entrepreneur. During that period, his son Lance built his entire single-seater career within the Vicenza-based team, from the end of his karting experience to his debut in Formula 1.

In 2021, Prema announced a change in its corporate structure, coming under the control of DC Racing Solutions Ltd., a Swiss company already active in motorsport with the Iron Lynx project, which sees Deborah Mayer as its figurehead. Under new ownership, the team has expanded its scope, launching WEC and IndyCar programs while confirming its presence in the Formula 4, Formula Regional, Formula 3, and Formula 2 series.

No official statement has been released regarding the reasons for the separation, but the departure of the Rosin family is bound to generate reactions throughout the motorsport world. In over forty years of activity, Prema has won more than seventy titles between drivers' and teams' championships. A track record that only partially reflects the team's impact on the minor formula scene.

Sixty drivers who had passed through the team attended the 40th anniversary celebrations held two years ago in Venice.

Nine drivers competing in Formula 1 right now have raced for Prema at some point. Many of them started their careers at the Grisignano di Zocco headquarters at a young age, before making their Formula 1 debut with a full-time contract. Among the most recent are Kimi Antonelli, Oliver Bearman, and Arvid Lindblad, but the list of drivers who have grown up in the team is particularly long.

With the departure of the Rosin family, a historic phase comes to an end for Prema. The team's experience and structure will remain a benchmark, but the question remains as to how the management vacuum will be filled. The mark left by the Rosin family represents a chapter in motorsport history that will be difficult to replicate, making the challenge facing those who take up the mantle far from easy.
