Solid progress for Racing Engineering
The drivers and engineers at Racing Engineering were satisfied with their work at the conclusion of their second test session of the year at the Circuit Paul Ricard circuit this week (16-17th March), successfully completing their test programme for the two day session after working through a number of unexpected problems with the cars.
The relatively mild weather outside helped everyone in the team keep cool as a variety of technical glitches created headaches for the engineers. Despite these issues the engineers methodically worked their way through the problems, mostly centred around the brake systems, and the results on the final afternoon showed their solutions were successful.
By Friday afternoon everyone at Racing Engineering could breathe a sigh of relief as their testing programme was complete despite the setbacks, with Adam Carroll setting a time just half a second off the pacesetter Nelson Piquet Jr, while teammate Javier Villa was just a further six tenths back.
Race engineer Tim Wright spoke for everyone when he said: "All's well that ends well, and we finished better than we started. We had a problematic day on Thursday with a few things on the cars bringing our sessions to an end, but we made some good progress on Friday. In the morning we got through everything that we wanted to do, and then in the afternoon we made some pretty drastic changes, all of which were in the direction we wanted to go, and we made the car a bit better. I think the performances are getting there, and we've got more to come."
Adam Carroll was satisfied with the results of his second test with the team, noting: "It's been another productive test an extra set of tyres would have been nice, but it's the same for everybody. We tried a lot of things and got through our test programme, and in the end the car felt good we've still got some time to find, but I think we're going in the right direction. It would be nice to be fast now but it's not qualifying, and the test programme is moving forward, so I'm happy. If you consider how close the times are for everybody then we're going to have to have the car as good as possible to be at the front. Obviously we've still got a bit of work to do, but I think that everything we're doing is helping us to get there for the first race."
Unfortunately Javier Villa suffered more of the technical problems within the team, but stated: "We had some problems yesterday (Thursday), but today the brakes were perfect, no problem, and I am really happy with the car now, much more than before. In the end I was only 1.1 seconds off the front, which I think is really good. I'm now looking forward to the next test, and I just want to keep improving."
