Gonzalez looking for a better weekend at Barcelona in GP2
Attleborough (and Barcelona) based Venezuelan driver Rodolfo Gonzalez is looking forward to the next two GP2 race weekends at Barcelona in Spain and Monte Carlo which take place on the next two consecutive weekends.
The last rounds which took place at the Istanbul Park cuircuit in Turkish started with the running of practice, which was marred by heavy rainfall, and was followed by qualifying, when the cars went on-track with slick tyres. The session was red-flagged twice, bringing a lot of traffic back on-track when green lights came out. The qualifications ended up being really fragmented, which was the main reason why Gonzalez ended up in 26th.
After the Qualifying in Turkey Gonzalez had commented “What should i say? In qualifying I turned just one flying lap in 30 minutes. I was stopped twice by the red flags and each time I started one I found some slowing cars in front or yellow flags exposed for some off-track exits. It's been a really unfortunate day for me.”

In Race 1 Gonzalez was forced to retire at lap 17 due to gearbox issues and then stated “My weekend so far has been one to forget. I managed to make it through the first-lap mayhem and I hoped to fight back through the race. A gearbox issue then brought my day to an end. I need to move forward and focus on tomorrow's race 2.”
In Race two Gonzalez suffered from a really unlucky break, as he saw a recovery race compromised by a drive-through penalty for having jumped the start and by an early contact with another car. A frustrated Gonzalez said “It's been a race to forget on a weekend which proved extremely tough for me. At the start I was touched by Cecotto, and the impact compromised the car's handling. Then I was assessed a drive-through for jumping the start and any hope I had just vanished. I want to forget this weekend as soon as possible to prepare for the next round at Barcelona”.
Now looking ahead to the forthcoming races at the Circuit de Catylunya in Barcelona Gonzalez was preparing for a better weekend “Ok so I’m a bit disappointed for how the last weekend went in Istanbul. However I have to take the positives from the weekend, and this is that we had quite a strong pace in race one and race two. I have to get it together a bit more for qualifying and try to put a decent lap together that can put us in a position to fight for the points this weekend. I feel confident because the preparation work has been quite good and I hope to have a strong weekend and finish in the points at Barcelona”
