The GP Series closes out their inaugural season with the two top drivers in the title fight taking the front row for the first race at the Bahrain International Circuit. Nico Rosberg grabbed the pole with a time of 1:44.643, just besting his top rival Heikki Kovalainen by 0.675-seconds.

The ART Grand Prix mathematically sealed the teams' championship at Spa on September 11th, however their driver Rosberg came into the season finale with only a three point margin over Arden International's Kovalainen.

"This pole position is very important, definitely," expressed the delighted Rosberg who garnered two bonus points this morning. "We worked hard and it went perfectly for me. I enjoy these one lap things anyway I go out like a bull and make it stick every time, so I'm happy with that. I'm really pleased two points already, and every point counts."

For the Finn, losing those two points for the pole puts him at a disadvantage for today's race. If Rosberg scores four or more points over Kovalainen, then he will notch the championship in race one to be held later in the afternoon.

"I thought it was okay, but Nico managed to do a really quick lap," said the Finn. "But at the end there was no chance. The race is another thing, but it's certainly looking good for them [ART Grand Prix and Nico]. I'll try to get the lead at the start and then try to win the race, of course I've won races before when he's been quicker."

Nicolas Lapierre settled for third quickest, a mere 0.214-seconds slower than his Arden teammate.

"I'm quite happy because I've never been here, the team hasn't been here before, and I think we did a pretty good job," remarked Lapierre. "It's really good for the team. We have to push if Heikki wants to be champion, and we're going to push as hard as we can."

Only 0.009-seconds off the qualifying podium was Girogio Pantano who will line up fourth on the grid for his Super Nova International team. His teammate Alex Premat will slot fifth followed by BCN Competicion's Ernesto Viso.

Nelson A. Piquet was to have started seventh but his best time was scratched due to a yellow flag violation, he slotted 17th. Joining Piquet for the same penalty was Adam Carroll who was moved from 11th to 19th on the starting grid for race one.

For Rosberg, he is trying to remain calm before the race to be held later, "I'm really trying to look at it like a normal race, like every other race," commented Rosberg. "I'm just going to push and see what happens obviously I'm going to take a little bit less risk, but we'll see what happens."
