Leal had a really positive run and managed to end his race close to the pack fighting for points. Richelmi was great at the start, and showed up in fourth place by the first corner. Unfortunately, his race was compromised by a faultless contact with another car: the Monaco-based man was forced to come back to the pits for a right rear tire change.
Trident Racing is already heading towards Budapest, where the GP2 Series will be back underway in a few days for the 9th round out of 12 for 2012.
Julian Leal, 12th "At the start I had to make my way through the pack and it's been pretty tricky. After the first few laps - which were quite eventful - I built a strong pace, and as the car handled pretty well I was able to improve my position. I tried to manage my tires the best way I could, but in the last 10 laps the left front started to wear out. From that point on I only focused in ending my day with no incidents."
Stéphane Richelmi, 21st "I started well, but in turn 6 I was not fortunate enough in choosing the outside line, and I lost one spot. I think that our top speed have not been top-notch since the start. We knew that our engine was nearing his kilometric limit, but the gap proved larger than expected. During lap 4 I found myself with a flat tire due to a contact with Cecotto and came back to the pits for two new rear tires. Overall I think we confirmed the good showing of yesterday in terms of race pace and car balancing. The only regret is that a points finish was definitely in our frame today. That would have been the icing on our cake…"
On a side note, the day of Trident Racing started in a really tense way as one of the team's GP3 Series drivers, Vicky Piria, was involved in an heavy crash in turn 6 right after the start. After having been assisted by the track's emergency response crew, she was admitted to the Ludwigshafen hospital to perform further checks. All the scans proved negative and no physical consequences are to report. Piria will be kept in hospital overnight as a precaution. Trident Racing want to thank everything involved in the aid procedure. The whole team is looking forward to welcome her back on-track soon.
