The second of the three postseason collective GP2 Main Series tests took off today at Jerez De La Frontera, as cars and drivers will be back on-track one more time before the end of the season. Trident Racing came to the Spanish racetrack carrying an extensive testing program, with four different drivers set to drive over two days. Day 1 featured the GP2 debut of Edoardo Mortara, while Chris Van Der Drift rejoined the team after the impressive performance shown in the first seasonal round of the GP2 Asia Series at Shanghai. Van Der Drift will be joined tomorrow by Alberto Valerio, with Bertrand Baguette taking over the wheel in the PM segment.

Chris Van Der Drift

I really like the feeling I have with the GP2 Main Series` car, which is very stable, a pleasure to drive. My performance on Day 1 was conditioned by a problem with brakes that forced us to slow down the program a bit. I had just a short time to try clock a flying lap, so I can`t see the car`s limit clearly yet; I`ll try to make up tomorrow. The track`s grip appeared to be more stable than in the past, and I think we`ll be able to go for a fast lap in the PM session too.

Everything was pretty much new for me today. It was my first time on a GP2 Series car, and on a racecar with so much horsepower in general. I also had never seen Jerez before, so I even had to deal with an unknown racetrack. I`m pretty satisfied with the good job we did though: I was impressed by the power of the Mecachrome engine, and by the driving style required on the Main Series`Dallara car. Despite the lack of experience with such an high power and with some technical components, like carbon brakes, the overall feeling wasn`t so much different than in Formula 3. It felt like a natural transition.
