The 25 turn, 5,440km new Valencia street circuit is again one of the attractions of the year for drivers and for Andreas Zuber who races under a UAE license for FMSI. The Valencia street circuit poses a new challenge that demands everything of drivers but did not offer a lot of grip in the qualification rounds.

In the last three weeks since Budapest, Andreas Zuber who has scored 20 points so far this season and three podiums (Monaco, UK and Germany) went on vacation for a whole week and kept the rest of his free time for physical training in Croatia and Italy. But the 25 year old native of Styr, Austria was hoping not to rest on his laurels since he still had not won this year. Following five results in the points so far, Zuber wanted to stand on the top step of the podium this weekend at the street circuit race in Valencia. But the 31-lap first race in Spain's third biggest city was a more difficult affair than expected.

This is what Zuber experienced at the start of the first race where he dropped from 16th almost to the back. He recovered very strongly and after an early pit stop, Zuber was in 20th place and eventually finished in 17th position. In race 2, Andreas Zuber spun and was out of the race at the second turn.

Andreas Zuber explained: "It was a tough weekend. During the short practice session, I covered 12 laps and kept improving my pace to 1.48.613. In qualifying I clocked 1.47.175 in the opening laps and brought my time down to 1.46.892. It was a pity that a red flag interrupted the session for over 12 minutes to clear debris leaving us really only a thin slot to work in.

But that was not so much the problem. We couldn't find the right set-up here. The car jumped and slid around a lot. The car as such is all right, but there was no grip. This is our main problem and I can't blame it all on traffic nor on the red flag that interrupted a third of the 30 minute session. This is probably the reason why I qualified only 16th. I would have certainly liked to finish the session higher up. Despite the qualifying result, I wanted to finish in the top 8.

"I had a good start but a difficult first corner and I am lucky after I was pushed off to have been able to get back into the race taking me until mid-race to recover. With the team we decided for a strategy with an early pit stop. By the 15th lap, I was in 19th position lapping in 1.48.794 behind Guido Van der Garde. I drove as well as I could and the car was quick enough for me to finish in 17th position with the third fastest race lap.

"No luck again in the second race because I ran wide after the start, onto the dust on the side and spun. I am really upset, because this morning I was watching this corner with my engineer James Robinson during the BMW race and decided it was extremely slippery and it was a spot to avoid on the track. See you in Spa next week. It is a great track there and I love it. The race should be a good one for us."
