ALEXANDER SIMS TOPS THE TIMESHEETS AT FIRST GP3 TEST OF THE SEASON
British racing driver Alexander Sims topped the timesheets on both days during this week's GP3 Series test at Paul Ricard.

The two day test kicked off on Thursday morning in wet and cold conditions. The Gravity Sport Management-backed racing driver took to the track and was immediately on the pace setting the fastest time by the end of hour one.
The track remained wet for all but the last 15 minutes of the morning session. With the track drying, Alexander's lap times began to tumble. By the end of the session the track had dried enough for Alexander to head out on slicks and secure the fastest lap of the morning with a 1:21:82.
Five minutes before the start of the afternoon session the heavens opened. Alexander headed out on the track in slicks to assess the grip but quickly returned to the pits to put wets on. The rain continued throughout the session giving Alexander and the Status GP team the chance to get an afternoon of wet running as well as allowing Alexander in his rookie year in GP3 to get experience of using a turbo in wet conditions.
Day two of the test began with a damp track but after two hours of running it had dried and the drivers changed to slicks. The dry conditions of day two enabled Alexander and the Status GP team to focus more on the car's set up and to trial a number of aspects of the test programme.
Alexander had another strong afternoon, posting a personal best of 1.20.89 which Calado initially beat but his time was declared void due to cutting a corner, promoting Sims to the top spot.
"I couldn't have asked for a better start to our 2011 campaign. It has been fantastic to work with the Status GP team during the test and the past two days have reinforced my initial opinions of them as a professional and dedicated race team;" commented Alexander Sims.
"To top the timesheets on both days of the test is credit to the hard work that the team has put in over the winter and I'm very happy to be finishing the first test with such strong lap times. However, it's still early days and with the start of the season still two months away it's important to now focus on the next test and to continue to develop the car so that we can be in the best possible position come Istanbul;" continued Alexander Sims.
The GP3 Series heads to Silverstone on March 29th-31st for the next set of testing.
