ATECH CRS GP CONFIRMS NICK YELLOLY FOR GP3
Atech CRS Grand Prix today announces British driver Nick Yelloly as the first of its three drivers to contest the 2011 GP3 series. Nick competed in British Formula Renault last season, winning at the season finale at Brands Hatch, and was a regular visitor to the podium during the season.
Since the end of the GP3 inaugural season, Nick has carried out a comprehensive test schedule with the Silverstone-based team, carrying out all the official end-of-season tests and setting some impressive lap times. The 19 year-old from Solihull is currently in Spa, carrying out more testing in a Formula Master car ahead of next year's GP3 campaign which kicks off at Barcelona in May.
Speaking from Belgium, Nick said: "I am really excited to be moving up from the British Formula Renault championship to GP3 which has to be regarded now as the best championship out there for the aspiring young professional. To be able to make this step with Atech CRS, with whom I've achieved rapidly improving success in a relatively short career, is a real added bonus.
"The prospect of being joined by two other talented young drivers in 2011 will enable me and the team to make a serious attempt at achieving many successes through the year. No one should underestimate how serious we are about mounting a very serious campaign as a team in 2011.
"We relish the challenge and can't wait for the new season to start. Thank you particularly to David Hayle, Atech CRS and my sponsors for giving me this opportunity."
Atech CRS Team Principal David Hayle was also delighted to continue his relationship with Nick and commented: "I'm over the moon that Nick is moving up to GP3 with Atech CRS. He's been with Atech for the last two seasons in Formula Renault during which time his rate of improvement as a driver has been massive.
"He's just got stronger and stronger with time, ending the season with a victory in the last round at Brands, which was thoroughly deserved. I'm really looking forward to working with Nick again he certainly puts the effort in."
Today's announcement is the first signing for a British team in the 2011 GP3 series and Atech CRS hopes to announce its second driver by the weekend. The team is also currently in negotiations with two other drivers for the third seat.
