SUCCESSFULL GP3 DEBUT FOR ESTEBAN GUTIERREZ

Barcelona, Spain -- It was an emotional and successful day for young talent Esteban Gutierrez, with ART Grand Prix, as he repeated what he did in saturday race by gaining three places at the start of round 2 of the 2010 season. Gutierrez tried to gain position two as well, but while fighting wheel to wheel with Foresti, at Carlin Motorsport, he lost his place to Vergne, at team Tech 1, who eventually was given a drive through penalty for inappropriate driving at the start of the race.

Esteban was up in third again, and for the remainder of the race he defended his position to Canadian driver Robert Wickens (Status GP), repeating the fight they had for P2 on round 1 of the season, the day before.

Just like he did in the first race, the Mexican driver stayed focused and drove a smart race to cross the finish line in third place and add up valuable championship points to his tally. Esteban's teammates, North American driver Alexander Rossi and Brazilian Pedro Nunes, finished first and sixth respectively, also gaining points for the team championship.

With the two third positions of this weekend, Gutierrez is placed third in the championship standings with 10 points, tied with Pal Varhaug, who is placed in second for having won the first round. They both are only one point behind Robert Wickens, who leads the championship.

Thanks to his consistency, Esteban was the only driver -- among the 30 participants - to be on the podium twice this weekend. With the success achieved by the Mexican driver and his team, it looks like this is going to be a season filled with emotions and accomplishments, which he would like to share with all the people who have supported him throughout his professional career.

All the hard work done throughout 2009 and the first four months of this year are paying off. That work, combined with what Esteban is going to experience with his ART GP team and the F1 team Sauber during the season, will help him with his continous growth as a person and as a professional driver.

"We are very happy with this weekend's results, as we had two podium finishes starting from seventh and sixth. This demonstrates that our performance is very strong and that we can be very competitive under different conditions and circumstances. Thank God we take home some good points and this motivates us to keep going forward and too fight for more victories", he said.

"I have two weeks off in which I will continue with my physical, nutritional, and psychological preparation, supervised by Sauber F1 Team physical trainer, Josef Leberer, with whom I have a good relationship that have helped a lot for my preparation", he remarked.

"I'll be in Monaco this weekend, attending the Formula 1 race. We wanted to participate in this race with a World Series car in order to know the circuit ahead of the next season in the GP2 series. We could not have a car in time and that's why I'm not racing this time. Anyway, it's going to be great, spending time with team Sauber and living first hand what they do on a race weekend", concluded the 18 years old driver Esteban Gutierrez.
