ISTANBUL: GP3 DEBUT CONDITIONED BY QUALIFYING FOR STEFANO COLETTI

30/05/2010 - Stefano Coletti lived quite an eventful debut in GP3: the driver from Monaco underlined the importance of free practice in the build-up interviews both to get to know the track and to adapt his driving style to the Renault turbo engine, but in the thirty minutes available, his Dallara has been almost incredibly victim of two punctures, an inconvenience that conditioned the working programme that had been defined by Tech 1 engineers.

Despite of this, qualifying on Saturday seemed to be having a positive direction and Coletti was constantly within the first ten drivers. The behaviour of his single seater changed radically when he used new tyres and this prevented him to do better than the time 1'47.732, twenty-third of the session; the problem was later discovered to be related to the anti-roll bar.

Race one saw anyway a good recovery that took Stefano up to the thirteenth position: the great agonism put on track since the start led him to a contact with Mikhail Aleshin with three laps to go, which forced both drivers to the retirement.

Similar plot was followed by race two, another attack race started from the back of the grid and ended with the thirteenth place under the chequered flag.

Stefano Coletti:
"My weekend was practically decided by qualifying: I think that being among the first six would have been at my reach and at that point both races would have had a different perspective. I am satisfied anyway by the race pace I kept in both races and especially in race two when my tyres had sixteen laps more than those of the rivals and I believe we can be hopeful for the next rounds".

The GP3 Series will be back on track next 27 June on the street track of Valencia.
