Andretti boss takes over Formula E Teams chair

Roger Griffiths, team principal of Andretti's Formula E outfit, has taken over the role of leading the Formula E Teams (FET) body this month.

Griffiths has replaced Mahindra team boss Dilbagh Gill, and will work alongside Jim Wright, formerly of Venturi and now with Mahindra.

Gill and Wright had taken over from FET's season-one chairman - DS Virgin Racing boss Alex Tai.

Gill stepped down from the role voluntarily despite being voted to stay for an additional season.

“When we started the association, we said that we would have a rotation of which team principal would lead it,” Gill told Motorsport.com.

“It looked like I was going to do an extra year along with Jim, which is what we started to do. But now I think it is a good time to step down because Jim has joined Mahindra and we don’t want any perceived conflict with two of us working on it so closely.

“It makes sense for Roger to do it because not only does he do a good job but he also works on the Technical and Sporting Working Groups [along with Renault e.dams' Jean-Paul Driot]. One person looking after the teams' interests, especially this year as it is crucial in many ways - technically and commercially, is the best policy.”

FET meets at each race on the Formula E schedule and discusses topics that range from day to day running of the all-electric series to future regulations and future calendars. It includes a representative from all of the teams.

Griffiths has been an ever-present in Formula E, holding the position of team principal for the Andretti team since the inception of the championship. The experienced engineer and manager has previously worked for Honda Performance Development as its technical director.
