Chandhok expects a podium in Beijing

Karun Chandhok expects that his team, Mahindra Racing, can make it to the podium in the opening round of the Formula E Championship this weekend in Beijing.

Chandhok, who is teaming up with Bruno Senna at Mahindra says this series gives drivers a better opportunity to showcase their skills than a series like F1.

“In F1, it is 80 per cent car and 20 per cent driver skills. I would say the ratio is 60/40 in Formula E as it is a single make series. There will be a lot of difference in timing and fans will regularly get to see wheel to wheel action,” Chandhok told India.com.

“It is possible (to get a podium) but you need luck and reliability with the new car on the first weekend of the championship.”

Teamwork pays off

Chandhok added that team work in the series’ final session of the final test was able to send the Mahindra drivers towards the top of the charts.

"The times in the fifth and final pre-season test were encouraging. The earlier tests were mostly about experimenting and collecting data. But in the final test we made a call to pool in whatever information we had to improve the car set-up and it worked somehow," he said.
