De Silvestro on future: "I have options in a few championships"

Formula E driver Simona de Silvestro doesn't yet know where she will be racing in the future - but says there is interest in a few different championships.

De Silvestro, a former IndyCar podium finisher, has spent the 2015-16 season in Formula E, driving for Amlin Andretti.

However, with her teammate Robin Frijns officially retained and Antonio Felix da Costa looking set for the other seat, de Silvestro's immediate future in Formula E appears uncertain.

Regarding her immediate prospects, the Swiss driver told Motorsport.com: "I don't know.

"[There are] a lot of different racing series out there that have interest - and that I'm interested in. I just have to look a little bit at what the best opportunity is for me to be competitive, and that's really what I want.

"I want to be in a competitive outfit and really get the chance - getting the right chance is really important as a driver, and it's always been a big fight to be in the right opportunity at the right time."

IndyCar still "on my radar"

Having raced in IndyCar full-time between 2010 and 2013, de Silvestro said she remains keen on the series.

"For sure, IndyCar is always something that stays on my radar," she said. "The car, I really love it, I'm really passionate about IndyCar, my career developed there and really grew there and that's the series, you kind of look at, where I think I could do really well."

Having contested three IndyCar races with Andretti in 2015, de Silvestro confirmed, however, that it would be hard to find the backing required to return.

"I think it might be difficult cause you need sponsorship to go there. I tried last year and was running pretty well, but the lack of sponsorship... it didn't happen. That's always the tough part about it."

"Pretty average" debut season

In 2016, de Silvestro became the first woman to score points in the nascent Formula E series, doing so at Long Beach and in Berlin.

However, the Swiss driver significantly trailed star teammate Frijns in the standings and admitted she had a tough time adapting to the championship.

Asked to rate her season, de Silvestro said: "Pretty average, I think. At the beginning of the season, I struggled quite a bit, finding the way with the car a little bit, it took a little while.

"I would say since Mexico it's much better, since then we've been consistently running in the top 10 and being much closer to Robin as well - like in Berlin, I think we should've finished right behind him, but we had a problem with one of the batteries.

"So, I think, it's been better, but for sure you know it would've been nice to already have those points in the beginning of the season."
