Di Grassi was attacking the Frenchman for third place in the second half of the race and ended up being squeezed to the wall, the duo making contact in the process.

The Brazilian suffered damage to his front wing and was forced to defend from title rival Sebastien Buemi for the rest of the race.

Following the race, di Grassi blamed Vergne for their collision, saying the Frenchman left a gap for him to overtake.

Told that Vergne didn't appear too concerned about the collision, di Grassi said: "That just proves what an idiot he is.

"He’s not fighting for the championship, he left a gap. In many other cases he closed the door, and when he closed the door I didn’t do anything.

"But at one point he left the door open on the outside, I was completely on the inside and he just turned in on me.

"There was nothing I could do to avoid it; the wall was on the inside, he was on the outside. He almost ruined the championship.

"For sure it was not normal, I would never do that to an opponent. But he has nothing to lose: he’s leaving the team, I don’t know what he’s doing next year.

"We almost lost 10 points because of this situation, I don’t think it’s fair."

"Di Grassi talks too much", says Vergne

When asked about his take on the situation, Vergne put the blame on di Grassi, saying it was irresponsible for a title contender to try a pass like that.

"I think he talks too much sometimes and he should focus on trying to win the championship," said Vergne.

"He is the one who has to win the championship, not me."

"He knows where I am, I don't let people pass there so easy ,especially not a guy who is fighting for the championship. So if he thinks he can take me in a little mousehole, I think he needs to wake up earlier.
