The Dutch driver is undertaking his first laps with the troubled Amlin Andretti technical package at Donington Park, and is believed to be up against Scott Speed for a seat next to Simona De Silvestro.

“I’ve got a shot at Andretti now, so let’s see what happens,” Frijns told Motorsport.com on Monday.

“I love single-seaters, and yes GTs is a different world. I enjoy both, but I am still young and for sheer satisfaction single-seaters is something I love.

"I am talking to the team about a potential race programme but there is no timeframe on when anything might happen. I would love to do it, but it is a decision for Andretti.”

Frijns was close to racing for at the season one Battersea Park finale in June, but is believed not to have inked the deal on the eve of the race due to contract complications.

Turvey all but confirmed at NEXTEV

Motorsport.com also understands that Frijns has already sampled a Formula E car after a test with NEXTEV TCR in Spain last month. However, the Campos-run, title-winning team is set to confirm Oliver Turvey as Nelson Piquet’s teammate this week.

“It is practically done with him [Turvey],” Adrian Campos told Motorsport.com at Donington.

“He made a nice impression in the races [at Battersea Park] he did with us, and is exactly the type of intelligent driver who will do well in this championship.”
