The Indian outfit finished eighth in the 2014/15 season of the Formula E championship as it failed to keep up to the competition from their rivals.

“We have learnt a lot from the first season and we are working hard on our new M2Electro racing car which is undergoing testing and validation work,” said Gill to Motorsport.com.

The team reviewed what went wrong in the first season and hopes not to repeat them. “Resource planning and allocation for season two is going to be constantly reviewed and adjusted to ensure we do not have another dip in performance,” Gill added further.

Encouraging feedback

Having already commenced testing, the team is working to identify the M2Electro and making it all the more competitive.

“The two aspects we are working on is to make the car faster and to enhance energy efficiency since both are critical to race victories,” Gill explained in detail.

“We have hit our initial marks on the improvement expected and also the weight reductions on the car.  The second season gives teams a lot more flexibility in terms of developing parts for their cars,” he went further.

The feedback from engineers and driver testing has been encouraging Gill revealed.

Strategy key for season two

With season two giving manufacturers teams more chance to develop, Gill reckons the M2Electro could surprise everyone and the team is confident that it will deliver.

“At this level of competition you can’t really tell what could happen because each team has its own development strategy, but we are feeling confident and also playing to our strengths,” Gill stated.

“I think our supporters will be pleasantly surprised with the performance of our new M2Electro racer in season two.

“As long as the power usage is capped – there will not be huge performance differences. Strategy though will be a premium,” Gill went on being cautious.

Mahindra Racing is yet to confirm their drivers for the 2015/16 season. The team tested with a different driver in Spain with a different partner.

When asked, Gill said that they are ‘re-evaluating and keeping an open mind’ and further added that they have ‘changed partners infusing some Mahindra engineers’ in the team.
