Formula E is poised to confirm an ePrix in Mexico as a season two event, which would be the all-electric series' first race on a permanent track.

The date of the event, which would be the third Latin American event in the calendar, is still pending, but it is expected to fill the current vacant fifth round slot on March 19.

A source close to the negotiations between Formula E and Mexico told Motorsport.com that the deal has been completed, pending only an official announcement from the director of the series Alejandro Agag.

The planned March date of the race, which will run at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, could be modified, given that there have been other changes to the season-two calendar - namely, the Beijing ePrix's switch to October 24 and the possible introduction of the Swiss city Lugano as a venue for the second half of the campaign.

Formula E is the third major FIA championship set for a race in Mexico City in the near future, as the track also secured the return of the Mexican Grand Prix for 2015 and a World Endurance Championship round starting from 2016.
