Formula 3, the stepping stone to Formula 1, is booming: already 38 entrances for the 2004 season.

Formula 3 Euro Series is experiencing a real boom: Although there are only less than ten more weeks to go until the 2004 season kicks off, already now 38 entrances altogether and the names of 26 young guns have been entered. Teams and drivers from 15 nations will form the 2004 Formula 3 Euro Series field. Traditionally the top-class talent series is junior partner of DTM, the season opener will take place on 16th to 18th April at the Hockenheimring Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany. Racing drivers from all over the planet are regarding F3 to be the stepping stone to the highest motor racing categories. What doesn't come as a surprise, as drivers such as Schuey or Kimi Raikkonen made it to F1 after having honed their single seater racing skills in F3. Last year's Formula 3 Euro Series champion Ryan Briscoe is Toyota F1 test driver and runner-up Christian Klien has even made it to a 2004 GP seat at Jaguar. Five car manufacturers are supplying the teams involved in Formula 3 Euro Series with engines: Honda, Mercedes-Benz, Opel, Renault and Toyota.

A well known name on the grid is Nico Rosberg. Powered by Opel, Rosberg Jr will contest the 2004 season together with his Austrian team mate Andreas Zuber for Team Rosberg. Last year the son of former F1 champion Keke Rosberg gained one victory, one second and three third places. Having successfully completed two F1 tests for BMW WilliamsF1, the 18 year old is one of the favourites to win the 2004 Formula 3 Euro Series title.

Berlin based team Mucke Motorsport, runner-up in 2003, has signed Canadian Bruno Spengler and Pole Robert Kubica for the 2004 season. Also on the F3 Euro Series grid is Maximilian Gotz, superior winner of the 2003 Formula BMW ADAC title, thus doing his next step on the motor racing ladder. His team mate at TME Tom's Toyota will be Michael Devaney from Ireland, fourth in last year's Formula BMW ADAC championship.

New on the grid is Coloni Motorsport. The former F3000 squad from Italy is the only team to use Mugen-Honda powered Lola-Dome chassis' instead of the Dallara chassis' entered by the rest of the field. Manor Motorsport has moved from British Formula 3 championship to Formula 3 Euro Series. The drivers of the Mercedes powered Manor cars will be Dutch Charles Zwolsman and Brit Lewis Hamilton.

The Italian PREMA Powerteam, winner of the 2003 Formula 3 Euro Series title thanks to Ryan Briscoe's splendid performances behind the wheel of the team's Dallara-Opel, has entered three young guns for the 2004 season: Japanese Katsuyuki Hiranaka, Frank Perera from France and Brazilian Roberto Streit will drive state-of-the-art Dallara Opel cars in 2004.
