A week after having enjoyed his first taste of Formula 1 and convincing during his first outing in a Formula 1 car, the new FIA Formula 3 European Champion Esteban Ocon (Prema Powerteam) got back behind the wheel of an F1 racer.

At Fiorano, the 18-year old was offered the chance of driving a Ferrari F1 car: the prize that had been announced for the winner of the FIA Formula 3 European Championship by the Ferrari Driver Academy and the Scuderia Ferrari.

Last week, the Lotus Formula 1 junior had been invited to gather his first experiences at the pinnacle of motor racing by two days of testing in the cockpit of a two-year old Lotus F1 vehicle. Now, the Frenchman could drive a 2010-season Ferrari and enjoyed the test to the max. “The chance of getting behind the wheel of a Ferrari and driving it was just fantastic,” he beamed at the end of his day in the cockpit of the famous red racing car.

“You could feel the outstanding tradition and history of this team everywhere. I fell really honoured to have been granted this opportunity. Fiorano’s circuit is big fun and the Ferrari F10 I drove was really great.”

Luca Baldisserri, head of the Ferrari Driver Academy, also came to a fully positive conclusion: “For us, finding out how young drivers cope with their first test in a Ferrari always is exciting. With his performance and his professional approach, Esteban represented a positive surprise for us.

He didn’t make a single mistake and was quick from lap one. I think such a test isn’t an easy task for a young driver – particularly when it comes to the emotions – as for many of them, the chance of driving a Ferrari Formula 1 car means a dream come true.”

Now, however, Ocon once again focuses on Formula 3. After all, he wants to put the icing on the cake represented by his successful season in this category by also winning the prestigious Macau Formula 3 GP.
