Spengler 6th in Pau, France
Round 7 of the Euro Formula 3 Series -- Grand Prix of Pau (France)

Montreal, Canada, May 30, 2004 -- Canadian race car driver Bruno Spengler -- a member of the famed Mercedes-Benz Junior Team program -- drove another strong race to finish 6th in the first of two Formula 3 races held at the Grand Prix of Pau, France.

Spengler, who drives a Mercedes-Benz powered Dallara entered by team Mucke Motorsport, started the 19-lap race of the Euro Formula 3 Series from 9th place on the grid.

The green was given on dry tarmac but shortly after, the race was red flagged because of a sudden shower. The car were fitted with rain tires and the racing resumed. "It was incredibly slippery out there. Driving a Formula 3 car in the streets and in the rain is quite a challenge," Spengler explained. "My goal was to finish the race. I managed to pass a few cars. The race leaders had more grip than I in the braking zones and coming out of the corners. I decided to drive safely to get to the chequered flag."

The 20-year old Canadian was nevertheless satisfied. "I finish 6th which is not such a great result but the conditions were quite difficult and it was terribly easy to make costly mistakes. However, I kept the car on the race track. I'm also happy to score championship points. Tomorrow's race will be a little more difficult. I set the 7th fastest time of my group, which will put me 13th on the grid. But this is a street event and you never know may happen during the race..."

Bruno Spengler crossed the line in 7th position but was promoted to 6th when Lewis Hamilton's car was disqualified from the race results. At time of writing, the official decision of the race officials was still pending.

Round 8 will be held tomorrow Monday, Ascension Day, a holiday in France.
