Former Caterham junior Tan gets European F3 debut
Weiron Tan will make his debut in the European Formula 3 series in this weekend's Spielberg round, driving Carlin Racing's fourth car.
Tan will take over the entry that belonged to Raoul Hyman at the beginning of the season and was due to be run by Nelson Piquet at Pau, before the FIA forbade the Brazilian's participation.
A former Caterham junior, Tan had two years on the European single-seater scene, finishing runner-up in the two-litre Protyre Formula Renault series and taking two wins in German F3.
He ran with Andretti in Mazda Road to Indy's Pro Mazda series last year and continued in the championship with Team Pelfrey in 2016, but dropped out after two rounds.
"I’m very grateful for the opportunity Trevor [Carlin, team boss] has given me this weekend and it’s great to be part of Carlin family," Tan said.
"Obviously my goal is to come here and learn as much as I can; progression is absolutely key.
"I don’t have any expectations, these guys have already done loads of testing and three race events already so already have a lot more mileage than me.
"I’m focusing on doing as much as I can and, hopefully, doing a good job for the team."
