F3 Euro Series' podium in home race
Oh, Happy day !

Guillaume Moreau did a good job on his home ground, finishing an action- filled Saturday's race on the third step of the podium, and taking a strong fifth on the following day.

In free practice, Guillaume was sixth fastest, but only 9th in qualifying. The Frenchman was unable to nail the laps he might have done. He took care of the chicane skittles, there were yellow flags, traffic, a driver losing a wheel in his way, he also had a little bit of under steering and made a small mistake in his fastest lap. This resulted in Guillaume taking the. 7th spot on the grid, by virtue of Sebastian Vettel and Kamui Kobayashi's penalties. At Barcelona, they had disobeyed instructions by the track marshals, and were put five positions down on this race's grid.

With Pole sitter Giedo Van der Garde out of the picture due to mechanical failure, Guillaume did a good start and tried to make a move on championship leader Paul Di Resta at the Dunlop chicane. A clash happened at the front of the pack, but Guillaume exited the first corner in third. Sebastian Vettel, who is fighting for the Euro Series title against Paul Di Resta, started to pressurize Guillaume. "I was pushing to stay close to the two leaders. My car was difficult to drive because we had chosen a low downforce aerodynamic package. I made a mistake at the end of lap 4, before the long pit-straight, and Sebastian could come alongside me. I tried to resist, and approaching the chicane, he took me off to the outside kerb, I nearly lost the car while braking but I could continue. Soon after that, he made a mistake at the "Raccordement" too, but went off and I got my third place back. For good."

Then Guillaume could drive conservatively to cross the line in third. He was happy to celebrate a well-deserved podium finish with the team staff and also with his friends, fans and sponsors who came to support him in the one and only French round of the Formula 3 Euro Series.

According to the reversed grid regulation, third place in race 1 implies that you have to start race 2 in sixth. Guillaume did another flying start, but couldn't change gear. "My Engineer Antoine Voyet told me that in case of wheelspin, the "shift" system doesn't work, and it took a while until I could go into second gear. I was up to fifth by the end of lap 1 all the same." The championship leading duo chased the Frenchman in vain, and the latter took the flag in fifth place.

"It was a good week-end and I'm glad the pace is there. It's good news as we are looking forward to shining at Hockenheim." Guillaume knows the way that leads to the German venue's rostrum. He reached the second step in this year's opening round of the series as well as in 2005 season-closer.
