Hockenheim: Volkswagen qualifying report

With places five and sixth the Volkswagen drivers Mika Maki (Finland) and Jean Karl Vernay (France) scored additional championship points in the Formula 3 Euro Series.

The team-mates of the Signature squad started to Saturday's race from positions five and seven and fought a close duel for places five and six up to seeing the chequered flag. In the overall standings Maki (18 points) advanced to ninth place, while Vernay (35 points) defended position three and, in addition, reduced his gap to the runner-up Christian Vietoris (Gonnersdorf, Dallara-Mercedes, 44 points). Vernay and Maki will start to Sunday's race from positions three and four, as the four front rows of the grid are made up by the reverse order of Saturday's results. "Rookie" Tiago Geronimi (Brazil/Team Signature) took 13th place. The two drivers of the Volkswagen partner team Carlin Motorsport, Jake Rosenzweig (USA) and Brendon Hartley (New Zealand) came in 15th and 22nd place. Nick Tandy (Great Britain) and Johan Jokinen (Denmark) from Team Kolles & Heinz finished the 22-lap race on positions 18 and 19.

Wolfsburg (15 August 2009). Sandritter struck again: Following his two pole positions at Oschersleben Maximilian Sandritter (Raubling) continued his string of exploits at the Nurburgring. The 20-year-old thus again secured an ideal starting base for the race on Sunday and his chase on the heels of the two overall front runners, Maciek Steinhof and Elia Erhart. Alongside Sandritter, who is following Erhart by just three points in the overall standings, the Swede Simon Reinberth as the runner-up of the qualifying session in the Eifel will tackle the seventh of nine races of the season from the front row. Swedish is spoken on the second row as well: Marcus Fluch was exactly seven thousandths quicker than overall leader Maciek Steinhof from Cracow who finished fourth. As the best rookie, Maximilian Schneider from Hamburg clinched position five.

"Things can continue like this," beamed Sandritter after his job was done. "Like at Oschersleben, everything went perfectly. I wouldn't mind the race being similar to the one two weeks ago." That's when he celebrated a double victory.
