F3: Rain moved qualifying to Saturday

April weather has changed schedule of the opening event of the F3 Euro Series at Hockenheim. All changes started in the morning when fog caused two hours long delay of the free practice. Late in the afternoon came another change, first race qualifying was moved to Saturday due to heavy rain. Erik Janis was a bit disappointed with the decision because he set fifth fastest time in the wet test on Thursday and was second best rookie. The time for Saturday's qualifying has not been announced yet.

There were two reasons for the postponing of the qualifying. Of course, there was safety issue but there were also worries that tricky weather and likeliness of accidents could cause lack of Dallara spare parts. The Italian company supplies all 30 cars on the grid and after three years introduced new model F308. However, according to the rumours from Hockenheim, there is still a bit of spare parts shortage.

The qualifying should take place tomorrow morning. There is possibility that it could be either normal 30 minutes long or could be shortened to only 15 minutes. The start of tomorrow's race is scheduled on 11:50 but the organisers have not announced if there would b any changes as well.

Erik set 12th time in today's free practice and the same place held in the first of the two tests. In the second one, that took place in the wet, set fifth time.

Erik Janis: "The weather caused quite a bit of mess. I am waiting with my team-mates in the truck for any news. The sky is dark and the rain is really heavy. I understand the decision of the organisers but I am a bit disappointed. I was really looking forward for a wet qualifying. First of all I like wet track from my very first racing steps and I also did quite well during the Thursday's test. I was fifth. However, I do not want to complain. We will see tomorrow. I have been relatively happy so far. I think that yesterday's tests were not bad."

Peter Mucke, Team principal: "It is great that Erik has understood my view how to start this championship and his manager Antonin Charouz thinks the same like me. There is no reason to push too hard. Much better is to take it step by step and learn even those smallest details about F3 and the whole environment. I have been happy so far."
