Turbulent Weekend For James Jakes at the Norisring

The famous 2.3 kilometre Norisring street circuit in Nuremberg hosted round three of the 2007 Formula Three Euroseries. Manor Motorsports James Jakes headed there hoping to build on his success of the previous round at Brands Hatch where he scored a pole position and a second place on home soil.

As weekend practice commenced it was clear that there was a mystifying lack of pace from all four Manor Motorsports cars. Unfortunately, this meant that James would line up for race one in 16th place, 0.914 seconds behind pole sitter Sebastien Buemi.

Race 1 got underway in dry conditions but the weather soon deteriorated to the point that the clerk of the course had to red flag the race due to torrential rain. Racing resumed once the conditions cleared and James Jakes put on a spirited performance to finish in a respectable seventh place.

There were to be no further problems with the weather on day two for the second race of the weekend. James started the race in seventh place and was putting on a strong performance until Sebastien Buemi spun the Englishman at the final corner on lap 14. James recovered and fought back for the remainder of the race, overtaking Michael Patrizi to eventually finish in 5th place.

The results from this turbulent weekend place James sixth in the 2007 Formula Three Euroseries championship after earning four points. Round 4 of the series will take place this coming weekend at Magny-Cours as a support race for the Formula One French Grand Prix and James is confident that a successful showing will move him within reach of Sebastien Buemi in the championship standings.
