Starting his assault on this, the most competitive series in the world, the Formula 3 Euro series, rookie Jonathan Summerton positioned himself on the grid in row 9 out of the 29 car field for the inaugural race. Despite a yellow flag Jonathan raced well as he progressively drove his way through the field reaching 12th place by lap 8 of the 22 lap race. It all ended when he was forced off the track by another driver causing him to spin as he entering Mercedes corner, and then the car would not restart. Reviewing the lap times showed Jonathan was on his way to a top 8 finish. Under the new rules this retirement caused him to have to start the Sunday sprint race from P24. Afterwards Jonathan said, "It was an unfortunate incident as I had no where to go. The car was handling well and I felt that I could have been in the points".

Starting Sunday's 18 lap sprint race from position 24 due to his retirement on Saturday Jonathan knew he would have to drive hard, yet safely. Testing his driving ability he again battled through the field, pushing his car to the limit and at the finish line had worked himself up to a very credible 11th place finish.

After the race Team Mucke's engineer said, "Jonathan used his head in the race and produced some extremely fast lap times. Now it is a matter of seat time and he will be a champion. When asked about the weekend Jonathan commented, "I really enjoyed the competitive racing. It was fun working my way through the field and gave me some great learning experience. To reach P11 was very pleasing."

The next race is at Lausitzring at the end of April.
