Summerton Continues to Impress in F3 Euro Series.
Starting the weekend off very strong Jonathan Summerton had the 3rd fastest lap in practice and the fastest sector 3.Again becoming the talk of the Paddock.
Again, in qualifying, he was strong going up to 2nd fastest. At the end of the session he was placed 4th less than a 1/10 second off second - An exceptional time for a rookie!
Saturday race
Jonathan had a good start from his 4th slot on the grid. Going into turn 1 there were several cars all fighting for position. Jonathan was 5th on exit, a position he solidified as the race progressed, leaving 6th place by up to 1 second. By lap 20 the lead cars were already lapping some of the slower cars. When Jonathan was lapping a car, whom went wide going into the corner then locked up, the slower car cut into Jonathan's path, causing a spin, after which Jonathan's car would not start, so his race was over.
Race 2
Starting from P24 due to the first race result, Jonathan saw an opening at the start and went for it. By turn1 he had already overtaken 6 cars and by the end of lap 1 was already in 14th place. Over the next couple of laps he pushed hard and reached 9th place. However, on lap 11, a sudden rain storm caused chaos on the track with cars spinning everywhere and the Safety Car was deployed. Team Mucke decided that Jonathan should pit and change to wet tires, which was a great decision. When he went out he soon caught the line of cars behind the Safety Car and prepared for the green. He was now in P21. As the pace car went in Jonathan put down some fast laps and was back up to P 14 when he was told he had received a drive through penalty for an alleged incident going into the chicane where another car came in fast and went wide, causing Jonathan to go off the track to stop an incident. The stewards saw it as an unfair advantage and gave the penalty. So, Jonathan pitted and again went to the back. Once again, Jonathan quickly went back up the ladder reaching 16th by the checkered.
After, Jonathan commented saying it was a fun race that helped him learn passing opportunities, and driving in the rain. He disputed the drive through penalty and felt that with the rain tires and his last few lap times he could have definitely had a podium.
