British driver Jordan King (Carlin) became the winner of the North-Eastern European selection event for the 2015 FIA Institute Young Driver Excellence Academy.
In a four-day test, held at the ANWB Test and Training Centre in Lelystad, the Netherlands, King came out as the best among 15 other competitors from as many countries in North-Eastern Europe.
This season, King scored seven podium finishes and ended up seventh in the final drivers’ standings of the FIA Formula 3 European Championship.
If you look at the previous winners and the former Academy members who are involved with Formula 1, it gives you inspiration.

Throughout the four-day event, drivers from Austria, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Great Britain, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Norway, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden and Switzerland were tested by an expert jury on various aspects, including driving abilities, team spirit, fitness and media and presentation skills.
They also attended seminars about various subjects such as road safety, anti-doping activities and dealing with social media.
The young talented drivers were all selected by the national motorsport federations in their respective countries and came from various backgrounds, from go-karts and autocross to rallycross and single-seater racing. Among them, Jordan King emerged as the winner and he will now take part in a fully-funded FIA Academy training programme with tuition from motorsport experts.
King said: “It has been a great few days and I have learnt a lot about myself, my capabilities and where I need to improve. Hopefully over the next 12 months I can continue to do that and we will see how the Academy hoes. If you look at the previous winners and the former Academy members who are involved with Formula 1, it gives you inspiration. I am trying to head in that direction and it is definitely a good thing that former Academy participants are in the place that I want to be.”
