Spielberg F3: Eriksson secures maiden pole in first qualifying
European Formula 3 rookie Joel Eriksson took his maiden pole in the series in the first qualifying session at Spielberg.
The Swede, who has already collected three podiums this year and is currently second in the Rookies' championship, also claimed Motopark's first pole since its return to the series last year.
Eriksson held onto the lead as Maximilian Gunther's late effort fell 0.074s short, the German sharing the front row of Race 1 with the Swede.
British duo Callum Ilott and Ben Barnicoat took third and fourth respectively, with championship leader Lance Stroll completing the top five.
Mucke's Mikkel Jensen will start sixth, followed by George Russell and Ferrari junior Guan Yu Zhou, the Chinese ending up four tenths slower than his pace-setting teammate Eriksson.
The top 10 was made up by Pedro Piquet and Ralf Aron, the latter beating David Beckmann by just eight thousandths.
