Sandritter celebrates double victory at Volkswagen's home round
After his maiden victory in the ADAC Volkswagen Polo Cup on Saturday at Oschersleben, Maximilian Sandritter triumphed on Sunday as well and improved to second place in the overall standings. Like on Saturday, serial winner Maciek Steinhof, who had won four races in a row up to Volkswagen's home round on the outskirts of Wolfsburg, crossed the finish line as the runner-up and continues his clear lead of the standings. Elia Erhart, as well, experienced a dejà-vu on Sunday when he again mounted the podium as the third-placed finisher. Volkswagen apprentice Jann-Hendrik Ubben finished fourth and was thus the best contender in the rookie classification. Guest entrant Timmy Megenbier (USA) caused a surprise. The current leader of the Jetta TDI Cup standings and participant in Volkswagen's international exchange programme delivered a strong result of finishing the race in seventh place after retiring in the first race.
Formula 3 Euro Series
Maki on podium - Vernay continues ranking third in the standings
Volkswagen driver Mika Maki (FIN) celebrated his first podium result of the season at the tenth race of the Formula 3 Euro Series at Oschersleben. The Red Bull Junior from the Signature team clinched third place on Sunday after finishing eighth on Saturday. His team-mate Jean Karl Vernay scored important championship points with a sixth-place finish in the first race and - in seventh - barely missed scoring points in the second event. At the leading junior racing series' midpoint - ten out of 20 races have been run - the 21-year-old Frenchman ranks third in the overall standings and continues with good prospects in the fight for the championship.
Volkswagen at Oschersleben
Successful home round on the outskirts of Wolfsburg
Volkswagen experienced a home race weekend at Oschersleben that was successful through and through. The race track in the "Magdeburger Borde" flatlands is located just about an hour's drive from Wolfsburg. Numerous prominent guests and employees of Volkswagen Motorsport gathered at the venue in perfect summer weather. In the ADAC Volkswagen Polo Cup Frank von Behren, former captain of the national handball team and former football pro Ansgar Brinkmann fought a duel. Von Behren kept the upper hand in both rounds. Nils Schumann, Olympic gold medallist across 800 metres, quadrathlete Silke Harenberg, fast-water canoe racer Julian Rohn, Hans-Jorg Meyer, Olympic participant in shooting events, the Braunschweig Lions, the German champions in American football, and players of third-league football team Eintracht Braunschweig were other athletes enjoying the fantastic setting at Oschersleben.
