Friday, during the sole qualifying session, veteran Michel Bonnet Friday clinched pole position in his No. 2 Vector with a time of 1:53.024. Parker Thompson was second quickest (1:53.312) in his No. 90 Spectrum. Then, Roman de Angelis (Piper), Didier Schranen (CMV), Stefan Rzadzinski (Mygale) and Dominic Legrand (Spectrum) followed in order.

The field of 31 cars took the standing start under a fantastic blue sky. Bonnet immediately got passed by Thompson going into the first corner.

De Angelis was third but he also passed Bonnet under braking for the last chicane. The top three cars ran together with Rzadzinski and Konrad Czaczyk (Spectrum) having their own battle over fourth place.

At the end of Lap 2, Bonner retook second place from De Angelis. And at the beginning of Lap 4, Bonnet and De Angelis again traded positions! Corners later, the race went under a full course yellow after a competitor suffered from a terminal mechanical problem and is car stopped on the course.

On Lap 5, behind the Safety Car, the order was Thompson, De Angelis, Bonnet, Czaczyk, Rzadzinski and Legrand.

The race was restarted on Lap 6. Moments later, Guillaume Archambault probably got taped from behind and spun his CMV in the Senna corner. He was unable to restart his car, and the incident caused a second full course yellow. The race was restarted on Lap 9 but it was immediately called as it had reached its time limit.

Parker Thompson, who competed in the U.S. Formula 2000 series last year, was declared the winner. Roman de Angelis joined him on the podium in second place with Michel Bonnet in third.

Konrad Czaczyk was classified fourth ahead of Stefan Rzadzinski, Dominic Legrand and Dev Gore (Spectrum). Didier Schraenen, Olivier Bédard and Matthew Taskinen completed the top 10.

The second F1600 race will be staged tomorrow morning, hours before the start of the Canadian F1 Grand Prix.
